| THE EXTENDED POLYFORM 27' BODY |
These are both old and new pictures, some of our shop and other cars. We ran a SBC with zoomies the first
season. That combo will be coming back with the addition of fuel injection.
"The Demise of the 468" The 468 never
performed like I thought it should. Once again it's what you don't do or know that hurts you. Not re-checking the
head torque caused the damage, but the lack of performance is another story. I had miscalculated the amount of compression
the motor had. After going back through it, I found that the 468 was pumping over 14:1 compression. I was using C12 or Renegade
110, this would be marginal for an aggressive tune-up with over 14:1. I found myself over-jetting and bringing the timing
down to compensate for a high speed miss we kept getting. That early miss was the start of detonation. Then I got into
an over rich miss. While going overboard with octane is not good, not having enough is really bad. We now have fresh C14 and
can get the mixture and timing where it should be.

This is what happens when you skip regular maintenace checks.
I had not checked the head bolt torque in awhile.
The "Slingshot" now has a new "509".
The "468" will have to be decked and will be rebuilt and go back home to our Camaro. The "509" will
make things a little more interesting.
