Sportsman Nostalgia 1320 Drag Racing "Chevrolet powered"
"This site is for everyone who remembers or wants to remember Front Engine Dragsters, Gassers, and Altereds. The Good Old Days, back when the Christmas Tree had 5 amber bulbs and electronics were something you bought at Radio Shack. Not only is this a place to view photos of our rail, but there are links to some really great nostalgia racing sites. I hope the tuning links and tuning articles are useful and help avoid some costly mistakes."

THE SLINGSHOT

"SLINGSHOT" specs: 208" wb built in 2004 by Jason Wood, owner of Wizard Racing, in Hammond, LA using Mark Williams plans. Rail was built in the late 60's style complete with torson tube front axle. It's as close as we could make it and still have the latest safety mods. The aluminum body was also custom made by Wizard Racing. The main chassis components came from Mark Williams Enterprises or were custom made by Wizard Racing.
The 468 has been replaced. The new motor is a 509 BBC. It has a Dart block, Scat crank, Manley rods, and Ross pistons. The oil system is a wet sump with a Moroso pump and pan. The roller cam is from Erson with Crower lifters. The heads are Brodix BB2 Plus that are port matched with Manley valves and Vasco Jet springs. The intake is an Edelbrock Victor with a Holley 1050 Dominator carb. The fuel pump and regulator are by Barry Grant. The distributor is by Mallory with locked out advance using a MSD 6AL box. The water cooling is by Shogun. The trans is a BTE Top Dragster shorty glide with a BTE converter. The rear end has a Strange aluminum 3rd member with 4.10 gears installed in a custom Wizard Racing housing. The brakes are Wilwood, the chute is by Simpson. The rear wheels are 15" Welds with 32x14 Goodyear rubber, at the front are 17x2 Mark Williams spokes with Goodyear rubber. The chassis has black powder coat and the suspension and wheelie bar were satin nickle coated. (very durable and cheaper than chrome.)The rail weights 1,790 lbs with me in it.
Best to Date: 8.01 @ 169 on gas. I'm still working on adding weight up front,  changing tire pressure, and modifying the wheelie bars to improve the launch. As things improve, we should see some high 7's at 170 mph. I'll get more specific with the motor specs and tuning when everything is balanced and proven.

"This is our business and our passion. While I am extremely serious about winning races, the whole experience is where my satisfaction comes from. Though I got away from racing for 25 years I did race in the early 70's with bits and pieces of cars that I put together without much knowledge or money but it was fun and exciting. I started racing again about 7 years ago and it took me awhile to recognize drag racing for what it had grown into. But there is still something for everybody on some level at the race track which is quite an achievement. Technology, as with everything else, has changed dramatically since the early 70's. It is still amazing to me the power and performance that is available now. It's just a case of how much money and time you've got to spend. That's why its important to build strong engines with good parts that are matched to the rest of your car and try not to ask them to do more than they were designed to do. We will see what works and what doesn't here at M&M Racing." Thad Mancil
